classes

One of the main goals of the course is to create a safe and protective environment where you can work with trauma, promote self-confidence and belief in your own abilities through acting. In this way, it is possible to create a better opportunity for young people to join the Icelandic school and work community and prepare them better to face society’s challenges and strengthen social participation and social relations. New research has supported the link between trauma and changes in neurobiological processes that affect the body’s stress response and the brain’s ability to cope with the effects of trauma. When looking at research on how joint activities affect the mind and brain and how they could prevent or reduce trauma, drama therapy has been one resource that has proven to be very successful.

The need for education, motivation and empowerment of people with different origins is very urgent. Individuals from different origins, and especially refugees, often find it difficult to adapt and find safety in Icelandic society due to lack of knowledge of opportunities in education and work. The need for comprehensive counseling that supports the employability and career development of those who drop out of the labor market is great, and there seems to be a lack of such counseling in this country. Being aware of one’s own skills and career development is one of the most important factors when it comes to career success in the labor market according to research in career theory. The goal is to map one’s work skills, develop skills in managing one’s career, increase self-confidence and belief in one’s own abilities. It is based on Savicka’s philosophy of vocational theories, Viktor Frankl’s logotherapy and strength approach (Strength Academy, director Dr. Sara Solomon).

The goal of the class is to provide unaccompanied refugee youth with a platform to participate in organized leisure activities and at the same time promote social skills, strength and creativity through nature connection, exercise and creative projects. The course will contribute to improving their physical and mental well-being while building social relationships and personal skills that will benefit them in the future. During the course we will purposefully use positive psychology, creativity and nature. The project will therefore contribute to a long-term positive effect on the well-being and health of the participants and at the same time support their increased social activity in society.
